You know those experiences that just turn you off something?

Like the time I ate so many tomato flavored chips as a kid and it made me very sick. As a result I could not look at tomato chips for a good number of years.

Or like a friend of mine who can’t eat anything with sweet chilly sauce, cause she got food poisoning from something that just happened to contain the stuff. You have had one of those experiences right?

Think about it, I will wait…

Driving to work in the morning is tiresome. I can’t wait till the scientists from the federation invent that super cool transporter system. But untill then Cape Town traffic is just one of those daily obstacles to overcome.

And it is not like I really have it bad. I only have to drive about 5 km’s and even on a very bad day it does not take longer than 40 min’s, which when I compare it to what friends in London, Johannesburg or Atlanta have to endure I know that I have nothing to complain about.

This morning I sat behind a truck at a traffic light for 5 minutes without moving. When I say without moving I mean I could have locked up and walked away to the nearby cafe and back and no one would have noticed.

I decided to take an alternative route (I know how dangerous that is but I would rather move slowly for longer than sit in one place). It’s a route I have tried before, but the last time I went that way I pulled a u-turn at a traffic light (which is illegal here) and because I am a stickler for obeying the law I could not do the u-turn thing again.

So after a long circular route (red on the attached map) and 5 traffic light cycles (3 of which were frustratingly long), I got back ont Belmont road about 7 cars in front of the Truck that I was originally stuck behind.

That is an overall gain of only about 15 cars but it felt good to be (almost) continually moving.

What is your drive like?

Last night (or this morning rather) at 02:30 Marla came back to bed after settling Alicia. I was in the bathroom and heard when Marla turned the receiver of the baby monitor on (we leave it off when someone is actually with Alicia).

As soon as she turned it on I heard it crackle to life and emit the dreaded sound of a babies crying follows quickly but a very frustrated Marla using words that are not quotable here :). The strange thing was that I heard nothing coming from Alica’s room. Now you have to understand that the bathroom is closer to Alicia’s room that our bedroom. So it was very weird that I could hear Alicia crying via the monitor and not via the bedroom door.

Waiting is not fun

I can’t really understand what Marla is going through right now, but I really feel for her. I am finding the waiting very hard, and no matter how hard I try I can’t imagine what it must feel like for her.

We are about a week away from the birth of our second daughter and just about everything feels like it is in a state of limbo. Waiting!

This morning Marla IM’ed me and said that she was feeling a little weird. She told me not to panic. I did not panic but I could not think straight for the rest of the day. Suddenly I went into overdrive on things that I should have tried out months ago, and could not concentrate on anything that I should have been concentrating on.

Well, nothing! At least I figured out how I can tweet from my phone.

how do you handle waiting?
